When Life Comes at You Fast

You ever notice how life has a way of piling it all on at once? One season you’re cruising along, catching your breath, and the next—boom—you’re strapped into a roller coaster you didn’t even see coming. New milestones, unexpected challenges, and moments that feel like they’re moving at light speed.
I’m right in the middle of that season right now. Let me share just a few for context:
My Oldest Daughter Becoming a Mom - McKenna is preparing to welcome her first child, and watching her step into motherhood has been both humbling and surreal. It feels like just yesterday I was holding her for the first time, and now she’s about to experience that same joy. Life truly comes full circle.
Second Oldest Getting Engaged – Grace just got engaged while on our family vacation, and with that comes excitement, planning, and the reality that our family is about to grow (welcome Jase!). It’s a reminder that love creates new beginnings, even as one chapter of parenting starts to close.
Youngest Off to College – Faith is off to Capital University, balancing cross-country practices, ROTC commitments, and adjusting to the pace of college courses. Watching her chase big goals reminds me that growth comes through stretching yourself, even when it’s overwhelming at first.
Father-in-Law’s New Living Arrangement – over the past several months, DiAnna has poured time and energy into helping her father through a transition out of his home and into a retirement community. It’s never easy to make transitions like this, but it teaches us about patience, compassion, and honoring the generations who came before us.
Medical Hurdles - On top of all this, we’ve been navigating medical challenges in our family. Those moments slow you down and force you to see what truly matters — health, presence, and God’s sustaining strength.
Some days it feels like I can barely process one change before the next curve shows up on the track.
And I’ll be honest: it’s not always easy. Change stretches you. It tests your patience. It forces you to admit you don’t have control over the timeline or the pace.
But here’s what I’ve come to realize: when life comes at you fast, it also brings unexpected blessings you don’t want to miss.
Every twist and turn carries gifts — chances to grow, to celebrate, to grieve, and to lean on God in ways you never had to before. These moments, even the messy ones, are part of life’s design. They remind us we’re alive. They remind us that time is moving, and so are we.
Think about a roller coaster: the climbs can be slow and grueling, the drops can steal your breath, and the loops might leave you dizzy. But when the ride is over, most of us step off saying, “Wow… that was something!” (well at least some of us 😊). Life is the same way. The ride won’t last forever — so why not throw your hands in the air and take it in stride?
And here’s the good news: we don’t ride this thing alone. Scripture reminds us, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28). The blessings aren’t always obvious in the moment, but they’re there. God uses the highs, the lows, and even the sudden drops to shape us, to refine us, and to draw us closer to Him.
So, if life feels like it’s coming at you fast right now, remember: it’s not just chaos. It’s God’s hand at work. It’s His blessings unfolding. And one day, when the ride slows down, you’ll look back and see not just the speed and the curves — but the beauty of the journey He carried you through.
